Basic Lawn and Yard Facts For All Of Us To Follow

Grass, like other plants, needs proper care for it to flourish.  Not knowing how to care for it can make you lose your beautiful lawn. Yard care can be done in various ways.

One is by aeration of the ground. Lack of oxygen causes living organisms to begin dying out. The soil supporting the grass needs to be properly aerated for the sake of healthy grass growth. The subterranean insects and earth worms are good sources of soil aeration. In case your garden has experienced intense activity that has lead to compacting of the soil, you need to do an extra manual aeration by digging a garden fork into the ground at regular intervals.

Your lawn also needs proper watering. It is important to know just how much watering should be done as too much or too little will affect the grass.  A simple way to tell the amount of water your lawn needs is by stepping on the grass. Well watered grass will immediately spring back once you remove your foot. In case it takes long to do this, water the lawn. Curling and folding of the grass is also an indication that it needs water. Note that watering should be done either early in the morning or late in the afternoon. Avoid over watering the lawn as this will inhibit the penetration of oxygen into the ground.

Adding fertilizer to the ground is another way to improve your lawn.  Fertilizers supply nutrients to the soil, which is then sucked by the grass through its roots. Sufficient supply of nutrients enables the grass to grow fast and in turn give your garden a fuller look.
